Hitting the Links - Hosted by Anna Rawson
Yes, I'm Really a Professional Golfer

After an extended hiatus, Hitting the Links makes its triumphant return to San Diego Sports Guy and Anna Rawson has graciously agreed to host this weekly feature for the remainder of the year (or until I'm unable to locate anymore new pictures of her). Here are a few things that stood out in the news this week:
Everybody makes mistakes, but Grandpa John's age is becoming a real issue on the campaign trail. I think J Mac is probably going to have to start getting a little more sleep at night or scheduling regular naps throughout the day.
Schlitz is selling like hotcakes these days...at least in Milwaukee. I know Bruce Dickinson is on a waiting list or two. Bruce: please be sure to send a six pack out to San Diego when you pick up your order from Ray's Liquor.
I'd rather not talk about Brett Favre so much, but the story simply isn't going away. From day one I've sided with management in this imbroglio and the court of public opinion seems to be going that way as well. There will always be people who say the Packers are dissing Favre and he deserves better, but there clearly isn't a huge groundswell of support for #4. It would be nice if Green Bay could get a veteran QB back in any deal that is made involving Favre. Perhaps The Pack can obtain Jeff Garcia and a conditional pick from Tampa Bay.
Roger E. gave me a thumbs down in a comment yesterday so I'm going to try to get a thumbs up from him by briefly talking about the Brew Crew. C.C. Sabathia has been absolutely fabulous since joining the team. Upon hearing of the trade, I posted about it on July 8th and commended the Brewers for their Win Now approach. Why all teams don't adopt a similar strategy (without completely gutting their minor league system) is beyond me.
All the Wisconsin professional teams seem to be grabbing headlines these days...even the Bucks. In this SI.com article both John Hammond and Scott Skiles really emphasize the importance of defense. That's great fellas, but your roster still has a hole or two. You have four point guards and one very soft "power" forward. I think his name is Vanillanohuevos or something like that. Another deal needs to be made or your ceiling is .500 this year.
Wait a second, I'm not the Milwaukee/Wisconsin Sports Guy. Enough about the Bucks, Packers and Brewers. Anonymous wanted more pics of the guy sitting next to Danica Patrick and I aim to please. That reminds me, "Bend It Like Beckham" was a nice little movie.
Since I wasn't able to recommend any of the three movies I watched this past weekend (despite Rosey's fondness for "27 Dresses" I'm still not a fan), I'm going to suggest renting "Bend It Like Beckham" for the performance of Parminder Nagra.

An underplayed part of the
Brett Farve saga is that if he returned to the Packers this year as the starter, it would cost Aaron Rodgers more than $2 million in lost incentives this season (he gets paid bonuses for things like percentage of team's offensive plays). If you are Aaron Rodgers, Farve potentially stands in your way from (1) the glory of being starting QB for a Packer team with Super Bowl aspirations, and (2) more than $2 million. I suppose that explains the reports of Rodgers speaking with Jeff Gillooly, Shawn Eckhardt and Shane Stant.

Tom,
That certainly helps to explain the frosty relationship between Rodgers and Favre. I wasn't aware of the bonus incentives. However, I did see Gillooly whispering sweet nothings in Aaron's ear heading into the ESPY Awards Show so this definitely is something to keep an eye on. Gillooly will need to find another partner in crime though as Shawn Eckhardt (may he rest in peace) met his demise late last year. It surprises me that Eckhardt's picture wasn't in the same ESPYS montage with Jim McKay and other notable athletes/sports figures who died within the past year.
