Sounding Off On James Spader, The Office, Community, Ashton Kutcher, Whitney & The Dilemma...

Robert California - The Office has been running on fumes for several years now and the arrival of James Spader should breathe some much needed life into the show.  The first episode of the new season was uneven but Spader's character Robert California shined.  I have been an unabashed Spader fan for a quarter century and can only think of one or two roles in which he hasn't been superb. While The Office has been hit or miss with me since 2007 I'll certainly be watching as long as Robert California is around.

Community - Omar, say it ain't so. John Goodman might be a welcome addition to the cast but Michael Kenneth Williams just seems out of place as the Biology teacher.  Although I'll always enjoy Abed & Alison Brie, this show has just become too quirky and gimmicky for me.

The Dilemma - Generally speaking, I like Vince Vaughn, Ron Howard, Winona Ryder and everyone else who was associated with this movie.  However, the finished product was simply a hot mess. Skip it.

Ashton Kutcher - Although it has been one of the most popular shows for nearly a decade, I've never watched more than 10 minutes of Two and a Half Men. HoweverI was one of the 27 million people who recorded and/or watched the first episode of the new season with Ashton Kutcher. Sorry Mr. Moore, it was a mostly forgettable half hour of television and I won't be tuning in again.

Whitney - I liked her brash and raunchy jokes on a few of the Comedy Central Roasts but once is enough as far as this show is concerned.  I'm officially out. I doubt Whitney will make it to season two, but if it does the laugh track definitely needs to be jettisoned.

Only the writers here in the US can take a well crafted British original and make it actually become stale , rather than inspired ! "The Office" and " Prime Suspect" (both on NBC and from the premise of a UK original) now starring Maria Bello . But then we're talking NBC whose idea of bringing the viewer original content is to dig deep down into the barrel rather than coming up with something original !

That's why the majority of the time I watch cable . That's where the best programming is at present ! Only thing worthwhile on the broadcast networks "The Good Wife" and , "Amazing Race" !

2.5 Men is not in my arsenal either, but watch a show called Happy Endings - I think Wednesdays at 9:30 on Channel 7. Hilarious.

And The Dilemma was overrated. Good call.
